The duplicity of NASS ( National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria) leadership is glaring. They first attempted to silence the minister of the Niger Delta Affairs “Godswill Akpabio” from exposing NASS members complicit of corrupt practices and contract acquisition in NDDC (Niger Delta Development Commission). He was then threatened by the court that if he did not expose names of NASS members alleged of being embroiled in NDDC corruption, he would be tried for committing libel and slander. Now, the names have been released by Godswill Akpabio and other concerned Nigerian organisations. Yet, there is an unsettling silence and inaction from NASS, who have resulted to area boy tactics like shouting “lies”, “off your mic” or “it’s okay” before even clarifying or investigating the extent of the allegations. Is it not appropriate for NASS to immediately suspend mentioned NASS members pending the thorough investigations into them, their alleged companies and contracts? Since the committee chairman recused himself, is it not incumbent for named NASS members to step down also or be suspended? Anything short of this is a spit in the face of Nigerians who want and demand sincere transparent and accountable investigation, exposure, prosecution and conviction of all those embroiled in the looting of NDDC and the nations resources by undeniably corrupt politicians. NASS will continue to be viewed as the complicit house of “legislooters” if they fail to act. However, let’s not remain silent. Demand that your representatives call for the immediate suspension of the named NASS members. the NDDC investigation must go back to inception to expose all guilty persons. No one should be sitting easy and there should be no sacred cows.
